How do charges affect a security clearance?

person shaking hands with criminal defense lawyer or defense attorney

Given our location close to many federal government facilities, we have many clients who hold or are applying for some kind of national security clearance. We’ve represented many active duty and civilian members of the United States Armed Forces. Criminal charges can result in action being taken against your clearance and the loss of your job.  Additionally, many of our clients need to be able to lawfully carry a firearm for work.

Generally, felony charges and charges involving dishonesty (such as Theft, Fraud, and False Statement) are more problematic. However, even offenses like DUI or Assault can be grounds for the loss of a clearance. It is critical to hire an experienced criminal defense attorney to get the best possible outcome for your case. Many times, we’re able to secure a dismissal or Not Guilty verdict for clients. Other times, we’ve been creative in structuring agreements with prosecutors and the Court to protect our client’s livelihoods.

When your freedom and career are at stake, it’s important to have a criminal defense lawyer that has dealt with similar problems before. Contact our office today to schedule a consultation.
